Questionnaire Development

Drafting the questionnaire took more time than initially anticipated.  The experience was both fun and surprisingly tough at the same time, but the end result was a good perception of what was required to further the information that is required for SPSS variables input as well as the final project criteria.  The difficult section was coming up with the pertinent questions that will relate to what I'm eventually striving for.  Had to tweak it not only once, twice, but three times before finally deciding on the end result survey.  I'm thinking it will be a bit easier to administer the questionnaire than it was to come up with the original information.  It was fun nonetheless...!

Sampling Procedures

If money was no object and I was conducting my project as a REAL marketing firm, I'd use the snowball sampling procedure.  By using this there are a variety of procedures, initially using probabilitly method.  Then additional respondents are obtained "through snowball effect" from the initial respondents.  Convenience sampling can then be used to obtain information, so both procedures are basically used.  This would cost more in the long run, but the result would be more spot on accurate than some other sampling methods.

For my individual project, I'll use convenience sampling.  By integrating my surveys into classrooms in the college of business at the professor's convenience, I will be able to obtain a good sample within the college of business with students opinions and their views on my product being researched.

Questionnaire

While reviewing the bad questionnaire example,  I found there were no scales to relate relevance to the question.  "On a scale of 1-5, 5 being most relevant, 1 being least....etc...."  As far as question #3, what are you supposed to put into the little blanks.  There are insufficient questions/directions relating to each question as well.  I also have a problem with there being no title and no directions as to what the questionnaire relates to, and insufficient demographic info as well.  There are some serious flow problem with the overall questionnaire in general.

Online Panels

Completed 2 surveys through surveyspot.com and visited all of the others listed on the assignment. They all say they value your time and efforts for using and completing their online surveys. Some offer points and rewards for completion which can be redeemed for prizes such as electronics. That was a nice incentive and certainly benefits the consumer. Membership is free and with greenfieldonline.com, you can even get paid to do some surveys online. Double incentive!! In some of the online ones I took, the question about annual income and personal assets always bothers me - so I don't ever answer that one on any that I take. I choose not to participate or not to answer the question. There was one on sexual preference, kinda weird but I answered it. One entire page was set up addressing alcoholic beverages and frequency of use! All types of questions and it narrowed it down to the actual liquor, wine or beer you consumed. So it seemed the questionnaires were varied to account for all types of research.

Projective Test

I totally agree with the analysis of the projective test. My answers seemed to agree with the interpretations and my life almost to the exact point. Very interesting test. It could be used in Business Research very well, because it is a vague way of getting to the point of interest and verifying the problem or result. People answer questions based on "first into the mind and then onto the paper" answers, which could include many variables. One variable will influence another and so on.

Ethical issues

Ethical question #1, What should the McDonald's researcher present to the VP in his report?
The ethical thing would be: He should report the truth. Misrepresenting research is wrong and cannot/should not be done without repercussion to the person. Someone is eventually going to find out and realize the deception. Honesty is the best policy

Ethical question #2 - Asking the dad to be the last person in the focus group for Home Depot?
I could not do this in my ethical mind. Even though he fits the age requirements, it is misrepresentation as well and knowing that his dad is going to give a good opinion doesn't make it right or responsible. Actually they can TELL the father exactly how to word the answers, and that would not be appropriate given the circumstances
